Located in the Baraboo Hills region of south central Wisconsin, The Happy Hill Farmhouse project involves stabilizing and renovating a 19th Century log-cabin with an early 20th century addition. The farm sits a top a towering bluff with views of the Baraboo Range. The original structure, beautiful in its simplicity was designed with function in mind, but limited access to light, air and views of the dramatic countryside. The program for the project called for the stabilization of the crumbling structure, the preservation of the majority of the building envelope, the insertion of modern mechanical systems (electricity and plumbing) and most importantly a variety of design solutions intended to capitalize on the assets of the site. The result is a rural retreat with deep roots in the past and a view towards the current landscape.
